Employment: technological displacement: notice.
Summary
This California bill requires employers to provide at least 90 days' advance written notice to affected workers and state agencies before implementing technology or artificial intelligence that eliminates 25 or more jobs (or 25% of the workforce, whichever is less). For employers with more than 100 workers, affected employees gain the right to apply for other available positions and cannot be fired during the 90-day notice period. Employers who fail to provide notice must pay affected workers back pay and benefits for up to 60 days or half their tenure (whichever is shorter), and face civil penalties of up to $500 per day of violation.
